Matchgroup 2000

History

In 1997 i joined Mercury Taxis.

After a year i asked the then manager Steve Rogers if there was a fishing club, but there wasnt,

so between us we decided to to start one.

As soon as we had started Steve pulled out due to work comitments but gave me £200-00 to start the club and

MERCURY MATCHGROUP

was born.

We started with sixteen members and thirteen venues

The first match was at sheffield's Straight Mile Fisheries

and was won by Alan Knight

Thirteen matches later it was all over and

i Roy Davies came out on top

The same membership rejoined in 1999 and it looked like things were going well,

Yet again thirteen Matches and I came out on top agian

Also that winter we joined the chapeltown winter league where we came up short and finished second last

In the third yaer we had an increase in

memebership to twentey

and this saw Scot Bufton take the honours which he did for the next four years. This seemed to encourage people to join so they could beat Scot, and five years later this happened

In these years were Scot dominated Mercury Matchgroup Changed its name to Matchgroup 2000 and started to gain recognition for its team matchs

The chapeltown winter league saw us finish

Sixth, Fourth And third until this league was wound up.

The Angling Times Supercup started in 2001 and we had three good years there before we bowed out without a team

We won the first ever semi-final at Hayfield Lakes, and reached the final in those three years

We finished Forth, fith and eigth

Not Bad Really

2004 saw a change, a new champion in Mark Bows and a Matchgroup 2000s first junior league Whitch was won by

Bryan Birch

And a rise in membership to 40

The following year saw

Saw Roy Gibson With the league and

Lee Wragg Win the junior league

Then The Roy Hanson show came into to town he has now won it for the last three years

The junior league only went on for Two More years seeing

Gareth Fltcher And The Simon Cartmell

Taking the honours

The membership has grown great over the last few years but this year we saw a decline probobly down to the recession

So lets see what happens in 2010

We now fish 27 matches ever two weeks

The Junior league will be back on

And Im revamping the Chapeltown Winter League

for the winter of 2010 - 2011 season
